Types of Snail Species acceptable for Snail Farming

Snail farming in Nigeria is regarded as among the most profitable agribusiness you’ll be able to begin with low capital. Snail farming business is among the best chance to generate money in a short period.

Which Snail Species is Acceptable to Snail Farming?

Achatina Fulica.

The East African land snail, or giant African land snail, scientific called Achatina fulica, is a species of big, air-breathing land snail, a terrestrial pulmonate gastropod mollusk from the family Achatinidae. It’s the smallest in size among most of the desired species for rearing in Africa.

The shell is usually reddish-brown in color with weak yellow vertical markers but colouration changes with environmental conditions and diet. A light coffee colour is not uncommon. Adults of these species can exceed 20cm in shell span but normally average approximately 5 to 10cm.

Achatina Achatina.

Achatina achatina, frequent name that the giant Ghana snail, also called the giant tiger land snail, is a species of very big, air-breathing land snail, a terrestrial pulmonate gastropod mollusk from the family Achatinidae. Giant African land snails are all hemraphrodites, meaining they have both the male and female reproductive organs. Two snails continue to be required for breeding, but they are extremely prolific breeders.

They may have between 7-8 whorls along with the casing is often widely ovate. The body of this creature is silver-brown in colour though albino morphs could exist.

Achatina-Achatina is quite great for commercialization too, due to its profitability. This is due to the quantity of eggs it sets at the same time. Every achatina sets 300 to 500 eggs at one time at clutches, three times per year. Consequently, if you begin a farm with approximately 1000 snails, in 1 year you’d be receiving about 1.5 million snails moving by the amount of eggs that they generates.

Archachatina Marginata.

One of these 3 species, Achatina Achatina is the most desired for farmers since it grows so large to turn into the largest snail species on the planet. Achatina Achaina has it’s source from Nigeria, get to Liberia out of Nigeria and then Ghana.

Another reason is because of it’s high yield capability. Another species are extremely good also but I will concentrate on Achatina Achatina and Archachatina Marginata within this blog post since, they are not hard to find at Nigeria.
